Junior Women's Hockey: Karnataka to face Odisha

hockeySonepat:  Keeping their hopes alive to qualify for the quarter-finals Odisha recorded their second win, when they hammered Gujarat 31-0 in Pool-D at the 2nd Hockey India Junior Women National Championship in Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai today.


Rajkumari Ekka contributed maximum number of 7 goals for Odisha’s second victory in the league match followed by Biranji Ekka (5), Lilima Minz (4), Surabhi Pradhan (4), Elin Ekka (3), Sarojini Ekka (3), Reshma Lakra (2), Punam Barla (1), Lata Kujur (1) and Anita Ekka (1) goals. In their first league match played on Thursday Odisha beat Puducherry 29-0.


In another match of Pool D the strong contender for quarter-finals Karnataka beat Puducherry 17-0. Ranjitha A. K and Komala B.M shared three goals apiece for Karnataka followed by goals scored by Suman S. Huddar (2), Nischitha M.J (2), Nandini B.P (2) Sandhya H.P (1), Bhagyashree C.M (1) and Bhavya S.P (1).  


Karnataka will now face Odisha on Saturday in a deciding match for the quarter- finals.


In Pool B Runners-up team Jharkhand registered their second win against Manipur 8-0 with Sabnam Lakra topping the list with four goals followed by Sushila Lakra, Anima Minz, Punam M. Tete, Nomita Xalxo and Ranjita Soreng scored one goal each. In the same Pool Hockey Bhopal registered their first win in the tournament as they beat Manipur 2-0 in their second league match.


Chhattisgarh edged past Jammu & Kashmir 7-0 in Pool F.

Pool D: Odisha 31 (Lilima Minz 3, 6,7, 39; Elin Ekka 5, 9, 49; Birajini  Ekka 11, 16, 20, 46, 53, Reshma Lakra 15, 21, Sarojini Ekka 17, 27, 48; Surabhi Pradhan 22, 32, 51, 69; Rajkumari Ekka 23, 30, 31, 33, 55, 65, 70;  Punam Barla 40; Lata Kujur 61; Anita Ekka 67) beat Gujarat 0. Karnataka 17 (Ranjitha A. K 2, 7, 34; Suman S. Huddar 8, 58; Nischitha M.J 25, 40; Nandini B.P 27, 31; Sandhya H.P 28; Komala B.M 33, 61, 70; Bhagyashree C.M 55; Bhavya S.P 59) beat Puducherry 0.

Pool F: Chhattisgarh 7 (Laxmi  Chandel 10; Annu Gurang 21, 35, 49; Vidhya Yadav 22; Tejeswari Tembulkar 30; Rekha Thakur  50) beat Jammu & Kashmir 0.
