ISPS Handa Singapore Classic Goes global with Live TV

Singapore: The third edition of the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic will be beamed live to a global audience during the weekend rounds when the full field Asian Tour event tees off at Orchid Country Club from April 5-8.
All eyes will be on the region’s best golfers as they vie for top honours at the US$400,000 event which will be broadcast on the Asian Tour’s global television platform which reaches out to 200 countries and over 650 million homes.

A brainchild of Dr Haruhisa Handa, Chairman of International Sports Promotion Society (ISPS), the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic has been a platform to further promote ISPS’s work with blind and disabled golf.

During its inaugural year in 2010, the event was used to help promote blind golfing while in 2011, organisers switched their focus to relief and rebuilding efforts in Japan following the tsunami and earthquake tragedies that year.

The ISPS Handa Singapore Classic has been receiving strong support from a host of corporate sponsors.

Park Regis, Singapore’s newest hotel property located right in the heart of Central Business District, is the latest sponsor and will play host to all players and officials during the tournament.

Canon and Suntec Singapore, long-standing partners of the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic since its inaugural year, have also reaffirmed their sponsorship, returning as Official Solutions Provider and Promotions Partner respectively.

Other sponsors include Wolf Bass (Official Wine Supplier), Singha (Official Beer),Fenix (Official Apparel), 100 Plus (Official Isotonic Drink), Inetol Headwear (Official Headwear), Srixon (Official Golf Ball) and BlackBerry (Official Smartphone and Tablet).

Asian Tour Executive Chairman, Kyi Hla Han welcomed the ever-growing support for the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic and is confident that the event will continue to grow in stature.

“We are delighted to receive such strong support from the various sponsors towards the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic. Through these sponsorships, we are confident that the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic will continue to position itself as another spectacular golfing event on Singapore’s sporting calendar,” said Han.

The ISPS Handa Singapore Classic, which is sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Singapore PGA, has enjoyed strong support from players and fans, where the crowd numbers totalled to close to 7,000 over four days last year.

It also unearthed Singapore’s latest rising star, Lam Zhiqun who emerged as the leading Singaporean at last year’s event in tied-eighth position.

Asian Tour honorary member Jeev Milkha Singh, who was Asia’s number one in 2006 and 2008 has confirmed his participation alongside defending champion Himmat Rai and local hero Mardan Mamat, who recently ended a six-year title drought when he won his third Asian Tour title in the Philippines.
