Smriti Mehra wins KGA Pro Golf ChampionshipsBengaluru: Veteran Delhi golfer Smriti Mehra pulled off a stunning final round of four under 68 today to win the eighth leg of the Hero-KGA Pro Golf Championships 2013. Smriti, who finished with a total score of 217 (79, 70, 68), stunned overnight leader Ankita Tiwana to bag the winner’s cheque. Ankita had to settle for the runner’s up position trailing Smriti by one stroke. Vani Kapoor finished at the third position carding 219 (72, 74, 73) at the end of the final round. The INR 5,00,000 event, which culminated today, was being played at the picturesque KGA golf course.

 

Smriti Mehra today showcased her experience pulling off a stunning win against city mate Ankita Tiwana carding the day’s and the tournaments best single round score of four under 68. Smriti had a modest start to her round with three birdies on the 2nd, 5th and 9th holes in her front nine. She consolidated her lead with three more birdies on the 10th, 15th and 16th holes in her back nine. Her winning margin over Ankita would have been bigger had she not faultered on the 18th hole with a double bogey.
 

Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana had a sweet start with a birdy on the 1st hole but she could not hold on to her start faultering with a bogey on the 3rd hole. She finished with another birdie on the 4th hole and a double bogey on the 16th hole. Carding a total score a total score of 218 (76, 69, 73), she had to settle for the runner’s up position. Vani Kapoor finished the tournament at the third position with a total score of 219 (72, 74, 73). Her final round consisted of bogeys on the 1st and 6th holes and a single birdie on the 2nd hole.
 

Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma finished at the fourth place with a total score of 224 (79, 70, 75) while Kolkata golfer Neha Tripathi finished at the sixth position with a total score of 225 (78, 73, 74).
 

The Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2013 now moves to the Clover Greens Golf Course for the 9th leg.
