Saqib maintains lead at Gujarat Open C'ship

Syed-Saqib-Ahmed-260Ahmedabad: On a windy Wednesday, Chandigarh’s Feroz Singh Garewal carded the only under par round for the day which saw the top 50 amateurs make the cut. Feroz turned in a card of 1-under par for the day, which took him to the tied-third position at 1 over par after the second round of the Tata Steel IGU Gujarat Open Amateur Championship 2013 being played at Kalhaar Blues & Greens Golf Club here.

It was not working for overnight leader Syed Saqib Ahmed who played a round of 3-over par for the day although he maintains the clubhouse lead after 36 holes. Samarth Dwivedi maintained the 2nd place at 2 under par followed by four players tied for the third place on 1 over par including Feroz.

Feroz Garewal, who is one of the top ranked juniors and a sophomore on the amateur circuit, played a bogey free front nine to facilitate a total of four birdies and rise up the leaderboard from tenth to third thereby giving himself a shot at winning the Tata Steel IGU Gujarat Open. The day’s second best card was turned in by Noida’s Gaurav Verma who played even par followed by Col. S. K. Lakra and Ainesh Ahluwalia who bogeyed the 18th to finish one over par.

With winds expected to play a major part in the forthcoming rounds, some changes to the top ten are expected on the morrow as the players are closely knitted with a minimum gap in their scores.
