Former Indian cricket coach John Wright said that Harbhajan Singh should be considered for selection against England, says a report in DNA.
“Bhajji bowls really well against England. He will be a king at home and it will be good to have him up the sleeve,” said Wright.
Wright said that Harbhajan should relax and should not try too hard, “Sometime you are so keen to do well that you tend to force things. He is a quality bowler and a great competitor. He is a match winner who can bowl sides out,” he said.
He also said that including Harbhajan in the side will put pressure on the other two spinners, “I remember during a Test in Chandigarh in 2001, he came and bowled England out when they were in a dominating position. His presence could extract the best out of Ashwin and Ojha,” he said.
About the series he said, “These guys (England) were No 1 team not long ago. They are a well balanced side. The first couple of Tests are going to be critical and both sides would want to get confidence early.”
Meanwhile, The Hindustan Times reports that John Wright is not in favor of producing rank-turners for India-England Test series.
“Using home advantage is fine by me. Obviously, if you go to play in Trent Bridge or Headingley at this time of the year, the ball is going to seam around. But in India, wickets are such that they offer a bit of turn by the third day and last five days. Even then, there were competitive matches. Making wickets that’s going to turn from Day 1 won’t be a good advertisement for Tests.”
