Primera Liga: Madrid thrash Osasuna to maintain six points lead at top

Madrid: A brace apiece by Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain helped Real Madrid thrash Osasuna 5-1 and maintain their six points lead at the top of the table over Barcelona at the Spanish Primera Liga on Saturday.

Ronaldo has now become the highest scorer of the league for the current season with 37 goals one more than Lionel Messi of Barcelona.

Karim Benzema set Real on course with a great volley at the half an hour mark followed by a goal by a goal by Ronaldo seven minutes later. Osasuna hardly could have recovered from these that Higuain pumped one more in at the 40th minute to help the league leaders go into the breather with a score line of 3-0.  This goal also marked his 100th goal for the Spanish giants.

After the change of ends, Osasuna were quick to shift gears and opened their account with a fine header by Juan Francisco ‘Nino’ header. But could not do much after that and Real eased away with the victory following goals by Ronaldo (69th) and Higuain (77th). In their course of victory Real were also able to breach the 100 goals barrier for the current season in this match.

Meanwhile, goals by Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi helped Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao at the Nou Camp and stay in hunt for the league title on Saturday.
