Rohit keeps Mumbai alive in the competition

RS294Recovering from a terrible phase of play, the Mumbai Indians finally won their second game of the tournament to keep the table wide open with enormous possibilities. In the 27th match of the 11th edition of Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians defeated the table toppers Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets.

It was Man of the Match- Rohit Sharma who proved to be Mumbai’s hero yet again. Rohit timed his innings of 56* to perfection and helped Mumbai successfully chase down Chennai’s target of 170 runs. This was Mumbai’s second win from 7 matches and only the second defeat for CSK in as many games.

At the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune on Saturday, Chennai batted first to score 169 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. In response, MI were up to the challenge and go to 170 runs with 2 balls to spare. Rohit faced 33 balls for his 56, which included 6 fours and 2 sixes. Rohit along with Evin Lewis (47) added 59 runs for the second wicket and accompanied Hardik Pandya (13*) to add an unbeaten 42 run stand for the third wicket.

Suryakumar Yadav (44) and Evin Lewis provided Mumbai a good but steady start. They stitched an opening partnership worth 69 runs. Harbhajan Singh and Dwayne Bravo picked up a wicket each for CSK.

Prior to this, Suresh Raina looked in great touch for CSK. Raina who faced 47 balls made an impressive 75* runs with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes. Ambati Rayudu (46), MS Dhoni (26) and Shane Watson (12) also chipped in with useful contributions with the bat. Raina and Rayudu added 71 runs for the second wicket. Mitchell McClenaghan and Krunal Pandya picked up 2 wickets each for the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians jumped to the sixth place at the points table with this win.
