Australian star batsman Adam Voges retires from International cricket

cricket ball wicket 520Australian star batsman Adam Voges retired from International cricket. The attacking Aussie batsman played only 20 tests, 31 One-day Internationals and 7 T20s for Australia.

The 37-year-old will retired with the second highest batting average of 61.87, second only behind Sir Donald Bradman who averaged 99.94 in 52 test matches played for his country.

Voges, who had his test debut at the age of 35, has played just 20 tests and scored 1485 runs at an average of 61.87 with 5 hundreds and 4 half centuries. His best score of 269 not out came against the West Indies at Hobart in December 10, 2015.

On 3rd June 2015, Adam Voges made his test debut against the West Indies. He scored his first test century against the same opposition in the first test match of The Frank and Worrell trophy. With 130 not out at Roseau, he became the oldest test debutant centurion from all the nations. He also became the oldest player to get a Man-of-the-Match award on his test debut. His last test match was against South Africa at Hobart.

He was also a good One-day batsman. However, he got only 31 ODIs to prove his worth. In those 31 matches, Voges scored 870 runs at an average of 45.78 with 1 hundred and 4 fifties. His knock 112 not out was his best individual score which came against the Windies at Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2013. Adam Voges has also contributed with ball in the 50 over format. He has taken six wickets in 31 One-day International matches that he played. He made his 50-over format debut against the Kiwis at Hamilton on February 29, 2007. His first of the four fifties came against Scotland at Edilinburgh on August 28, 2009.

Adam Voges played only even T20 games. In those 7 T20s, Voges scored 139 runs at an average of 46.33 with one fifty to his name. His 51 not out Vs West Indies is his best score in T20s. Like ODIs, Adam Voges also picked up 2 wickets in the 7 T20 matches that he played. Voges made his T20 debut against New Zealand and ended his career against West Indies.

Even though Adam Voges has quit international cricket, he will lead his side against Sri Lanka for the Prime Minster’s XI in Canberra. This will be his last game against an International side.
