Canada rout Bermuda for second successive win

Indianapolis: Hot favourites Canada served another strong warning as they outplayed Bermuda by 73 runs for their second successive victory in the four-nation double Round Robin League of the Pepsi ICC Americas Division I T20 Qualifier at the World Sports Park of Indy Parks and Recreation at 1313 South Post Road here today.

On the opening day Canada had demolished Suriname by 62 runs to start their campaign in a whirlwind fashion.

In their second league outing today, Canada batted first and piled up 143 in stipulated 20 overs. Opener Ruvindu Gunasekera played a spirited innings of 62 which he scored off 52 deliveries. During his stay at the wicket, Gunasekera reached the fence seven times. He also hit an effortless six.

Gunasekera and Rizwan Cheema gave Canada a good start as they stitched a 49 runs partnership for the opening wicket stand before Rizwan was caught by D Stovell of the bowling of J Tucker. Rizwan contributed 29 rusn with the help of two boundaries and two sixes. Gunasekera was then associated in a 45-run stand with Nitish Kumar (20, 2x4s) for the second wicket. Canada lost their second wicket at 94.

After Nitish Kumar's dismissal, Canada started losing wickets at regular intervals. From 94 for 2 in 13 overs they slipped to 141 for 8 in 19.5. After completion of 20 overs they posted 143 with SS Dhindsa and N Dutta remaining not out on 2 each.

Bermuda's off spinner Jacobi Robinson bowled immaculately to claim three wickets for 13 runs in his three-over spell. Medium fast bowler Stephen Kelly captured two wickets for 26 runs in four overs.

Chasing a victory target of 144 runs, Bermuda were restricted to 70 for 8 in 13 overs. They were in soon trouble as they were reeling at 8 for 3 at the end of three overs. Only Janerio Tucker (20) and Tre Manders (17) could reach the doubel figure mark.

For Canada, Cecil Pervez (2 for 4), AS Hansra (2 for 15) and N Dutta (2 for 16) were the most successive bowlers and contained the Bermuda's innings.

It was Bermuda's second successive defeat. Yesterday, they had lost to United States of America by five wickets.
