Lyon, Lee, McGrath, Benaud: Highest Australian wicket takers against India

Now the off spinner has 58 wickets to his name against India.

Here the list of highest wicket takers against India. Nathan Lyon has made the latest entry into the list. Lyon features amongst the Australian greats like Brett Lee, Glen McGrath, Riche Benaud and fast and furious Mitchell Johnson.

Nathan Lyon – He is the latest entrant into this list. He was simply awesome in this ongoing test match in Bangalore. His bowling figures of 8 wickets for 50 runs have put the Australian team in commanding position. He now also holds the record of highest wickets against India. From 2011 to this current season of 2017, Lyon has played 12 matches and 23 innings and has picked up 58 wickets with average of 30.62 and economy rate of 3.60. His best match figures were 12 wickets for 286 runs and best innings figures are recorded in this 2nd test match of Border Gavaskar Trophy. Lyon has four five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul against India.

Brett Lee – The Aussie fast bowler was one of the most loved Australian cricketers in India. In his good days, he was spearhead of the Australian bowling attack. He was very lethal and is amongst the highest wicket takers against India. From 1999 to 2008, Brett Lee played 12 matches and 24 innings against India and picked up 53 wickets with an average of 31.98 and economy rate of 3.35. His best figures in an innings were 5 wickets for 47 runs and best figures in a match was 7/78. Lee also has two five-wicket hauls against India.

Glenn McGrath – The Pigeon, as he was known as, is one of the greatest bowlers to have played the game. He and Brett Lee destroyed the best of batting line-up in the world. McGrath and Lee were one of the reasons why Australia were unbeatable and were No.1 for such a long time. In 11 matches and 22 innings, McGrath picked up 51 wickets at an average of 18.64 and economy rate of 2.23 with best match figures were 10 wickets for 105 runs. His best innings figures were 5 wickets for 48 runs and has two five wicket-hauls and one 10-wicket haul against India.

Richard Benaud – The master class bowler and batsman for Australia. After his retirement the cricketer turned into a master class commentator, author and journalist. Richard played just 8 test matches and 16 innings from 1956 to 1960 and picked up 52 wickets at an average 18.28 and economy rate 1.94 with best match figures of 11 wickets for 105 runs. His best innings figures were 7 wickets for 72 runs. He had five five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul against India.

Mitchell Johnson – Probably one of the best bowlers after Lee and McGrath, Johnson played 14 matches and 28 innings from 2008 to 2015. In that he picked up 50 wickets at an average of 36.66 and economy rate of 3.30. His best match figures were 10 wickets for 132 runs and best innings figures were 6 wickets for 73 runs. He has two five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul against India.
