India vs England, 5th Test: It was Jadeja’s day on Day 5; India win series 4-0

Ravindra Jadeja fifth TestChennai: The final day of the final Test began as well as England would have liked and England openers survived the entire morning session. It looked like England could manage to pull off a draw. But it was not to be.

Post lunch Ravindra Jadeja’s triple strike turned out to be the momentum shifter and completely changed the complexion of the match. From 103/0 England were reduced to 126/3 and Jadeja took all the three wickets to fell. There was no looking back from there and India completely dominated the game from there on. Even in the last session England had six wickets remaining and could have batted out the day but R Jadeja had saved his career best performance for today picking up seven wickets in the innings and his first 10-wicket haul in a match.

4-0 series win against England outcome of mutual respect among players: Kohli

This summed up England’s story in the sub-continent tour of 2016, so close yet so far. Eight overs more and it could have been a draw. And England could have easily drawn the Test had they not exposed their lower order on a 5th Day wicket with R Jadeja bowling his best.

Alaistar Cook 49 of 134; Keaton Jennings 54 of 121 and Moeen Ali 44 of 97 were the only real resistance shown on the day. Even Jos Buttler could have retained most of the strike with him while batting with the lower order instead of seeing wickets falling at the other end. Buttler played 50 deliveries and remained unbeaten on 6.

This means India extended its unbeaten streak to 18 Tests. Karun Nair won the Man-of-the-Match for his triple hundred and Virat Kohli, the Man-of-the-Series.

The limited overs series between India and England will be played in January 2017.
