WSB: Mumbai Fighters lose Dynamo Moscow 2-3

Mumbai: Mumbai Fighters lost to Dynamo Moscow 2:3 in the World Series Boxing (WSB) competition here on Saturday. The Fighters sealed their win in the Bantamweight and Heavyweight categories. The match of the day remained in the Heavyweight category between Fighters’ Uaine Fa Junior and Arslanbek Makhmudov of Dynamo Moscow. The most incredible thing on the part of New Zealander Fa was that he had landed in Mumbai to join the team on Friday afternoon itself and was declared the outright winner.

 

With the Friday’s match, the Fighters move up with 8 points but remain on fifth position. Whereas, Dynamo Moscow move to second position with 13 points of the Group A table of the World Series Boxing season 2011-12.

In the first match, Dynamo Moscow’s Vladimir Nikitin was aggressive from the first round but Gaurav Bidhuri did reply with some powerful punches in the bantamweight category. Gaurav surprised the opponent with some impressive show to win the first round. In a split decision of the judges, Vladimir won following two rounds. It was a close battle with both winning two rounds each. In a nail-biting fifth round, Gaurav recovered to maintain his lead and the judges declared Gaurav as the winner with 46:49, 48:47, 48:47 score.

The Pune-boy Siddharth entered the ring in his trademark aggression against Adlan Abdurashidov. However, he couldn’t have much opportunity against the opponent and lost all rounds. In a unanimous decision of the judges, Siddharth was declared defeated 45:50, 45:50, 45:50 in the lightweight category. 

The next bout was between Fighters’ Sanjin Pol Vrgoc versus Maxim Gazizov in the Middleweight category. Sanjin put up an impressive show against the opponent with a right combination of punches and technique. However, the opponent came heavily on him and in a unanimous decision of the judges Maxim Gazizov was declared winner 47:48, 44:50, 44:50.

The fourth match in the Light Heavyweight category was between Leanid Charnabayeu from the home side and Vladimir Sheles of Dynamo Moscow. It was a fierce fight and Leanid was impressive for selecting his punches and had a warning from the referee for tripping Vladimir but went down 45:49, 45:50, 45:49 in a unanimous decision.

The last Heavyweight category match was between the Fighters’ latest addition in the team Uaine Fa Junior and Arslanbek Makhmudov of Dynamo Moscow. Fa moved back and forth packing some quick, powerful and smart punches with right and left hand combination. He maintained his lead till the last round and was declared winner 49:46, 49:46, 49:46 to everyone’s joy.
