Mumbai Fighters ready for Russian roulette

Perm,(Russia): After putting up a strong contest against Italy’s Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder during the World Series Boxing’s (WSB) debut bout,  Venky’s Mumbai Fighters will now meet Russian side Dynamo Moscow in their second Group A match in Perm, Russia, Friday.

 

The Fighters have got one point from their opening loss, and will travel to Perm, Russia for match two. The Fighters will not only be fighting the Russian boxers but also a minimum of freezing -3 degrees Celsius temperature.

 

Jitender ‘The Haryana Hammer’ Kumar will ply his trade in the Bantamweight category for the Fighters against 2011 World Championships bronze medalist Anvar Yunusov. Whereas, Pune boy Siddharth ‘Buddy Boy’ Varma will make his Lightweight debut fighting Eduard Husainov. In the Middleweight category, Hisaar-born Mandeep ‘Indian Ali’ Jangra will find his calling as he will take on 2011 European champion Maxim Gazizov.

 

Two foreigners will represent the India boxing team in the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight categories. Croatian pugilist Marko ‘Infinity’ Calic will make his WSB debut for Venky’s Mumbai Fighters in Light Heavyweight fighting against Eduard Yakushev. Trent ‘Thunder from Down Under’ Rawlins will don the black and golden of Mumbai Fighters in the Heavyweight category as he takes on 2010 World University champion Arslanbek Makhmudov.

 

Head coach Shiv Kumar Pal is looking forward to the Russian challenge and said, “The first bout gave us good exposure and we are going into the fight against Russia with confidence. I am sure the boys will perform well. They have worked hard. While the Russian weather and boxers will be a challenge, I don’t think anything can deter the hard work of our team. The Fighters are up for any challenge and we will grow with each bout.”

 

Dynamo Moscow boxing team was formed in 2011 under the auspices of Russian Central Boxing Club, Dynamo, which is a part of the Russian Association Dynamo, the biggest and the oldest sport entity in the Russian Federation. Dynamo Association was founded in 1923 and is currently running over 70 sport disciplines, both team and individual, including football, ice-hockey, basketball, volleyball, gymnastic, tennis and many others.
