Mumbai Fighters appoint Shiv Kumar Pal as head coach

Mumbai: With the World Series of Boxing (WSB) mega event is inching closer, the Mumbai Fighters – the boxing team to represent India at the event for the first time, has brought in the renowned Shiv Kumar Pal as the Head Coach.



Mr Pal has been a coach for over 25 years now and has been associated with Indian boxing in various capacities. He began as the coach in-charge of the junior and sub-junior national team and moved to the senior ranks in 1992 to go on till 2003.

Mr Udit Sheth, Team Principal says, “Shiv Kumar Pal, for his sheer experience in coaching Indian boxers, brings a lot of value for Mumbai Fighters. You don’t find coaches like Mr Pals with such dedication to a sport. 25 years of coaching Indian boxers at various levels means he has been there and done that. I welcome him and assure that in tow with our Technical Director Joe Clough, Mr Pal will bring favourable results for Mumbai Fighters.

From 2006, Mr Pal has been a coach with the senior women’s national team. He has now joined hands with Mumbai Fighters Technical Director, Pro Boxing, Joe Clough to bring the best out of the team and get them up and running for the November 11’s first bout. Pal’s understanding of Indian boxers would complement Clough’s expertise in the sport to get our boxers in the right frame of mind. 

Joe Clough, Technical Director, Pro Boxing says, “My understanding of Indian boxing’s culture will only get better with Shiv Kumar Pal’s entry to Mumbai Fighters. His know-how of boxing in the country is immense and that will help us realize our ultimate goal of bringing the best out of our boxers. Our aim is to forge a partnership that not only benefits the team but also help the boxers become better.

Mumbai Fighters, the team consisting of 20 boxers with 7 foreign nationals and 13 Indians would enter the rings at WSB starting from November 11, 2011.
