New Delhi: Beijing Olympics quarterfinalist boxer Akhil Kumar, who recently decided to turn towards professional boxing, today met Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij. He had earlier met the Haryana CM and Director General of Police, Haryana Police, as well, to seek permission to return to the ring once again. Jitender Kumar, 2008 Olympian, is also following the footsteps of his idol, Akhil Kumar and turning to pro-boxing along with him.

Akhil Kumar who right now serves as the DSP in Haryana Police, needs to seek permission from the Haryana Police before turning towards professional boxing. Both Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar are following the footsteps of Vijender Singh.

On this occasion Akhil Kumar said, “It was a great meeting, Sports minister reassured me that permissions would be granted soon, on the same policy as followed for Vijender Singh. I am looking forward to this new beginning in my boxing career. The authorities have been very supportive of this decision and have assured me that the permission would be granted soon enough.”
