In the first set, Kashyap let go a 9-7 lead as Raul rode won seven points on trot to turn the tables in his favour and took the game away from Kashyap. In the second set, Kashyap came back strong and was a different man altogether. He easily won the second set 21-8.

However, the third set proved to be the toughest as the Indian shuttler fought back from 8-16 down to level the score 19-19 and later went on to lead by a point 20-19. But Raul grabbed the three points to win the game 22-20 and math by 2-1.

Kashayp, the first Indian male shuttler to reach the men's singles quarterfinals at the London Olympics, was set to qualify for Rio before a knee injury at German Open in March crushed his dreams. As a result of this, he pulled out of Malaysia super Series Premier and Singapore Open and has not played since then. The 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist also skipped the South Asian Games at Guwahati to recover and to be fit to pursue his olympic dream but injured his knee.
