World Badminton Rankings: Sindhu stable at No. 10, Saina moves down by four places to No. 9

PVS SindhuNew Delhi: India’s Saina Nehwal has moved down by four places to No. 9 from No. 5 while Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu is stable at No. 10 spot in the World Badminton Rankings for women singles category, the list for which was released by the Badminton World Federation on Thursday. Carolina Marin of Spain, who won the gold medal defeating Sindhu in the final of Rio Olympics, leads the pack at No. 1 spot with 83680 points.

Marin is followed by China’s Li Xuerui with 81014 points, while Japan’s Nozomi Okhuhara, who lost to Sindhu and later settled for bronze medal in Rio, moved up by one place to third spot with 78227 points. Saina Nehwal has a total of 70209 points while PV Sindhu has 63099 points.

Meanwhile, the women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa dropped four places to the 26th spot as a result of their failure to reach the knock-out stage in the Rio Games.

However, men's singles shuttler Kidambi Srikanth, who reached the Olympics quarter-finals, jumped a place to be 10th, while Ajay Jayaram improved his 22nd rank by a position.

The men’s rankings is lead by Malaysian Lee Chong Wei, who finished runner-up at Rio to Chen Long of China who is at No. 2. Lin Dan is at No. 3 spot.
