Saina, Sindhu, Kashyap, Srikanth among top ranked players to participate in 12th South Asian Games

PV Sindhu Indian badminton playerSHILLONG: Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta, president BAI and Chairman GTCC has released the list players of the Indian Badminton team members to participate in the 12th South Asian Games to be held in Shillong from February 6-10.

World’s top ranked players like Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Parupalli Kashyap, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Ajay Jayaram among others will be seen in action during the multinational event to be held at the NEHU, SAI Special Area Games.

In would be a badminton feast to the people of Meghalaya and the North East to see the famed shuttlers in action.

The team championship for men and women will be held with the group each on league basis on Feb 6 and 7. The semi finals will be held on Feb 8 forenoon and finals in the evening.

The individual events, men's singles and doubles, women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles will be held on Feb 9 and 10. The medals ceremony will be held on the evening of Feb 10. Eight men's teams and seven women's teams are participating in the team event.

This is the first time in the history of South Asian Games that all participating teams are playing the badminton event.

Pullela Gopichand, national chief coach, is expected to arrive on Feb 5 for inauguration of the 12th SAG.
