Hockey: Puducherry play draw with Goa, Odisha beat Bihar

hockey-200New Delhi: Goa and Puducherry played a 2-2 draw on the third day of 4th Hockey India Sub- Junior Women National Championship (Division B) being played at Haldwani, Uttarakhand, while Hockey Gangpur - Odisha had a comfortable win over Bihar with a five goal margin over the opponents.

The Pool C match between Goa and Puducherry on Saturday went on an interesting clash where the match led to a 2-2 draw. The first half of the game went in the favour of Goa as they scored two goals in the 10th and 32nd minute of the game which came through Disha Mandrekar and Kerryanna Albuquerque, respectively giving them an edge over the opponents. In the second half while Goa were full of confidence because of the 2 goal lead it was Puducherry’s focus which allowed them to come back into the match.
They turned the table in its favour leaving the opponents empty handed without any goal score. R Agilandeeswari made no mistake and scored a field goal in the 48th minute, taking the score to 2-1. Both the teams played exceptionally well closing the game with a 2-2 on board when G Sangeetha helped her team to equalize through a field goal in 65th minute.

In another Pool C match, Hockey Gangpur Odisha had an incredible win over Bihar by 5-0. Though, the first half of the game was very sluggish, Hockey Gangpur- Odisha managed to score the only single goal of the session and which came through the stick of Rojita Kujar.

In the second half, Hockey Gangpur Odisha put all its efforts and without giving any chance to Bihar advanced the score to 5-0. The second goal again came through Rojita Kujar who converted a penalty corner in the 40th minute. Leaving the opponent stunned, Hockey Gangpur Odisha secured three back to back field goals in 49th, 61st and 67th minute by Janhabi Pradhan, Rojita Kujar and Rinki Kujar, respectively helping Odisha claim a 5-0 win.

In another match in Pool D it was Mizoram which was victorious with its 7 goal margin as against a 0 of the opponents. The team started raining goals in the 3rd minute when Lalrindiki scored though a field goal. She did not stop here and in the 11th minute she gave her team the 2nd goal and which she converted through a penalty corner. Captain Lalawmpui pitch in the 24th minute through a field goal taking her team to a very comfortable position. Just before the ends of first half and in the 32nd minute, Lalremsiami scored through a field goal taking the first half scorecard to 4-0.second half was no different and Mizoram added another 3 goals to the tally 56th, 61st and 68th minute giving them a win over the opponents.

In the 4th match it was Punjab who was all over the opponents and scored 22 goals in a span of 70 minutes which left Jammu & Kahnmir with no chance to get back in the game. Amamdeep Kaur’s 8 goals in the match and 2 hattrick in the 19th, 27th and 28th and in the 47th, 48th and 49th minute was the highlight of the match.
