Sub-jr National Women C’ship: Haryana, MP, Kar register win

Sub-Junior-Women-National-C-shipNew Delhi: The Sub-Junior National Women Hockey (Division A) teams are making their presence felt by showcasing extraordinary skills, techniques and potential to pose equal threat to threat to the rest of the challengers in the championship, being played at Pune, Maharashtra. Defending Champions Haryana, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Karnataka make the challenge clear as they register their second consecutive win the 4th Hockey Sub-Junior National Women Championship 2014 (Division A).

In a Pool B match, Karnataka showered Chhattisgarh with 14 goals and went on to secure their second win in the championship. Karnataka started piercing the goals one after the other from the 5th minute of the match itself and went on till the 62nd minute, as they hammer Chhattisgarh with 14-1 on board. Kavyashree K.N and Leelavathy M.J of Karnataka shared the top scorer’s position as they both contributed four goals each for the team, followed by teammate Soundarya T.M who was the second highest scorer for the team with three goals at 15th, 33rd and 50th minute of the match.

The first half of the game saw Karnataka’s dominance at its best as they closed the first half with a 8-0 on board and restricted Chhattisgarh from doing any damage to their clean score sheet. It was only in the second half when Chhattisgarh’s Muskan Bharti managed to sneak in a field goal in the 53rd minute but the team failed to support the cause. Karnataka went on to add another six goals to their 8-0 score and clinched the match by 14-1.

In another Pool B match played between Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Tamil Nadu today, the former claimed an impressive 25-0 win over Tamil Nadu and registered their second win of the championship with ease. The match appeared to be one-sided from very beginning as Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy went all out with their attack and penetrated one goal after other from the 2nd minute till the 70th minute of the game.

The game witnessed Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy squad playing as a supportive and a united team as total eleven players from the team contributed towards the count of the goals. It was Ishika Chaudhary who became the top scorer for Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy by piercing five goals in total, followed by teammate Preeti Dubey with four goals to her credit and the third spot for the top scorer was shared by Upasana Singh and Jyoti Pal as they contributed three goals each for the team. Tamil Nadu failed to stop the goal shower and suffered a huge 25-0 loss.

In a Pool A match, the defending champions Haryana make the competition even stiffer for other challengers in the championship as they beat Kerala by 23-0. Haryana unleashed its weapons from the very 3rd minute of the match till the 67th minute, as they went on to put up a tall 23-0 on board and registering their second win in the tournament. It was Ekta Kaushik who opened the account for Haryana and became the top scorer of the match with a total of ten goals to her credit.

Ekta Kaushik was supported by Preeti Simar and Bharti Saroha who contributed five and four goals, respectively. Both the halves of the game saw Haryana on attack and Kerala on their back foot throughout as Kerala struggled to match up the pace with the defending champions and lost the game by a massive 23-0 on board.
