CSK eliminates Mumbai to stay in contention for the final

cskmsdhoniplaystolegsideMumbai: Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first against Mumbai Indians in the all important match which will decide who will stay alive in the tournament. Mumbai got off to a flier, thanks to Michael Hussey and Lendl Simmons. The pair added 76 runs in the first 10 overs before losing Hussey who was cleaned up by Ravindra Jadeja.

Simmons continued to play like a champion and was well supported by the middle-order. Corey Anderson, Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard lost their wickets in trying to go for quick runs and Simmons mistimed a shot to long-on of Jadeja which brought CSK right back in the match. The middle-order played good cameos but no one really went to to play a big knock. At the end of 20 overs Mumbai Indians reached 173 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Most believed that they were short by 15 runs given the kind of start they got. Simmons was the top-scorer whose 67 runs came off just 44 balls.

Chennai went off to a blistering start as Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Smith went after the bowlers and in no time they brought up their 50 run partnership. Bhajji got the Mumbai Indians right back in the match after dismissing both the openers in the same over but Suresh Raina and David Hussey had other ideas as they made sure that Mumbai Indians are knocked out of the tournament. CSK went on to win the match by 7 wickets with eight ball remaining in the innings. Raina remained unbeaten on 54 and Hussey on 40 as they get ready to take on the Kings XI Punjab to decide who will go on to meet Kolkata Knight Riders in the final on Sunday.
