India defeat Malaysia 2-0 to register their 5th consecutive win

Indian-players-celebrating-after-scoring-goalKuala Lumpur: In the fifth match of the Malaysian Tour 2014, played at Kuala Lumpur today, the Indian Women Hockey team registered their fifth successive win by defeating Malaysia 2-0. The six match series against Malaysia is a part of the team’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2014.

Filled with abundance of confidence and showing excellent skill set, Indian Women Hockey Team yet again registered a win over the hosts. In the first half of the match, showcasing an exceptional skill set Ritushah Arya opened the account for the team as early as in the 12th minute of the game and took the lead over Malaysia by 1-0. It was just before the final whistle for the half time blew in the 35th minute that Vandana Kataria pierced in a goal to take the lead further ahead by 2-0.

The second half of the match saw a dry run as both the teams failed to strike any goals where India displayed strong defensive skill.

Speaking on today’s win Captain Ritu Rani said, “the team is escalated with today's win as we now look forward to take the series with a clean sweep in our favour. Today's score on the other hand could have been much better, it was only in the second half that the game went a little slow but the team is confident in putting up a better score on board in the next match."

India will play their next match on 17th June, 2014 (Tuesday) with Malaysia at 0530hours (IST)
