Jakarta: India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar is ready to revive that winning feeling again when he takes on the region’s best players at the US$750,000 Indonesia Open which tees off on Thursday.
A four-time winner on the region’s premier Tour, Bhullar knows he has the game that can bring him towards another grandstand finish.
The 25-year-old enjoyed his career breakthrough on the Asian Tour in Indonesia in 2009 and is clearly excited about his return to the country that has brought him his maiden success.
“The game is there, I won’t be surprised if I go out to win a tournament very soon,” said Bhullar, who is sixth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
The Indian is however cautious about being overconfident as it had severely dented his title aspirations with his last-place finish at last week’s ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf in Australia.
“I think it was a lot to do with the overconfidence from last week’s top-10. I sat down with my parents over dinner last night and we were thinking what went wrong,” said Bhullar of his composure and the result he enjoyed at the Australian Masters which was played a fortnight ago.
“A lot of key factors which I thought would not disturb me got me. It’s a good lesson for me. I’ve to be more patient and not be too result oriented. I just have to keep to the process and routine,” added Bhullar.
Meanwhile Philippines’ Angelo Que is eager to return to his attacking style of play and take another shot at glory at the Pantai Indah Kapuk course at Damai Indah Golf where Indonesia’s national championship will be returning onto the Asian Tour’s Schedule after a lapse of three years.
Que, a three-time Asian Tour winner, paid dearly for his defensive approach by finishing his World Cup campaign in tied-46th place in Melbourne.
Back in familiar territories this week, the Filipino is determined to rediscover his best form that has led him to three titles on the Asian Tour, which is celebrating its landmark 10th season this year.
“The key for me is to have more trust in myself. I’m looking forward to playing the Indonesia Open after this week where you’re always defensive here (in Melbourne),” said Que.
“I’m looking forward to playing attacking golf again as the greens over there will be softer and the weather will not be as this windy,” added the 34-year-old.
