New York: World No. 1 Novak Djokovic raced into the US Open quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 rout of Spaniard Marcel Granollers, Tuesday on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The Serbian won the last 15 games to claim the 79-minute victory. He did not lose a point on serve in the opening set, in fact winning his first 25 service points, and only faced one break point in the final game.
Meanwhile, Mikhail Youzhny advanced to the US Open quarter-finals for the third time in dramatic fashion on Tuesday, battling back from the brink to defeat 2001 champion Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 3-6, 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5.
In another fourth round match, Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka prevailed in a crucial third set en route to a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(6), 6-2 win over fifth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych on Tuesday evening. Wawrinka twice failed to serve out the set, and needed to rally from 1-4 down in the tie-break before sealing the two-sets-to-one lead with an ace. Wawrinka advances to the quarter-finals for the second time in nine visits to Flushing Meadows.
