Bangalore: Riding on the scintillating century (123 off 89 balls) from skipper Yuvraj Singh, followed by some fine bowling from the likes of S Sumit Narwal and R vinay Kumar, India 'A', India 'A' trounced West Indies 'A' by a huge margin of 77 runs in the first match of the unofficial ODI series at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on Sunday.
Robin Uthappa and Unmukt Chand started the proceedings for India after the vistors invited them to bat after winning the toss. Chand could not contribute much to the team'stotal as he was dismissed for just one run in the third over, while Uthappa too failed to shine with his willow and was out for 23 runs in the 12th over.
With two wickets down, Mandeep Singh was joined by skipper Yuvraj Singh at the crease and then began the resurrection of the Indian innings. The duo went on to add 100 runs forthe thrid wicket before Mandeep fell to Miller for 67 runs.
Thereafter, Yuvraj was found an able company in Yusuf Pathan and the two veterans started plundering the Windies bowlers at their will. Yuvraj and Pathan added 125 runs for the fifth wicket in just 55 balls before the skipper gave a catch to Beaton off Bonner's delivery. Yuvraj made 123 runs off 89 balls, which included eight fours and seven sixes. India finished at 312 in the 42 overs in a rain-curtailed match.
India `A` then bowled out the visitors for 235 in 39.1 overs, giving the home side 1-0 lead in the series with the remaining two matches to be played at the same venue on September 17 and 19.
Chasing the formidable target, the visiting side lost the plot early on as they were reduced to 58 for three in the 11th over and after a brief recovery with a 54-run stand between Narsingh Deonarine (57) and Andre Fletcher (29), they again lost quick wickets to fold up at 235.
Ashley Nurse (57) was the other notable contributor for West Indies `A` whose batsmen perished while playing shots for quick runs.
