Wroclaw, Poland: Indian dreams at Archery World Cup Stage IV were shattered when Deepika Kumari and Priyank were shown the doors from the quarter-finals of the event at Wroclaw, Poland on Thursday.
Priyank was on a roll till he was crushed by big-time Korean Jae Wang by 4-6 in the recurve men’s individual event. Meanwhile, India’s brightest star in the world of Archery, Deepika couldn’t do justice to her reputation and ended up losing by 2-6 in the recurve women’s individual event. Her loss came against Korean top seed Ok Hee Yun 2-6.
Ok-Hee breezed past Deepika as she took a 4-0 lead in the contest. Deepika’s resistance was just not good enough to turn the tables and eventually she ended up losing to Korean who won a team gold and an individual bronze at the Beijing Olympics.
The Asian Games triple gold medallist denied Deepika's fresh attempt to come back by winning the fourth end 29-28 to settle the issue 6-2.
Meanwhile, both Wang and Priyank were going neck in neck with the scoreboard reading 4-4. But the Korean held on his nerves to clinch the decider by 29-26, which resulted in his victory by 6-4 and with that he entered into semis of the Archery World Cup.
Being the 21st seed, Priyank, had already got better off fifth seed French, Thomas Aubert in the pre-quarters of the tournament and was carrying a repo of a giant-killer in this match.
India's hope for a medal will now be in the team events that get underway on Friday.
