New Haven: India’s Sania Mirza made it to the 25th WTA doubles final as she along with new Chinese partner Jie Zheng got better off the Spanish duo of Silvia Soler-Espinosa and Carla Suarez Navarro by 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-finals New Haven Open, here on Thursday.
They would meet the winners of the second semi-finals, to be played between fourth seeds Liezel Huber/Nuria Llagostera Vives and Anabel Medina Garrigues/Katrina Srebotnik.
This is the last tournament before Saina heads to US Open where a good performance can be expected from Sania and her new partner. She has been great so far as she has won 16 out of 25 finals so far and apart from that this is going to be her fourth final of the year. She has won two titles so far this season.
Jheng is Sania’s fourth partner of the season, having played alongside Liezel Huber, Mattek-Sands, and Flavia Penneta.
