London: Japanese fans received some good news from the All England Club as Kei Nishikori made his way to the second round of the Wimbledon after smacking Australian wild card Matthew Ebden 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 on Tuesday.
The world number 11, Nishikori, managed to reach the fourth round of the French open, which concluded a few weeks ago but ultimately lost to the 'King Of Clay' Rafael Nadal.
However, Nishikori was hardly disturbed by Ebden on the grass court and defeated the world number 110 with ease. It took him just one hour and 41 minutes to bundle his opposition. With this victory, he has sealed his berth for second round where he will take on Argentine world number 84 Leonardo Mayer.
Mayer reached the second round after he defeated Aljaz Bedene in straight sets by 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.
Meanwhile, in the another tie, Novak Djokovic breezed through the opening match of Wimbledon with a comfortable win 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 against his German counterpart Florian Mayer. It was his first match after losing in semis of the French Open. His ability to adapt himself to grass court worked out well as he kept his authority throughput the match.
The last time that Djokovic won the Wimbledon was in 2008 and is looking very much in hunt for clinching it for the second time at the All England Club.
Meanwhile, Andy Murray had a brilliant start to this year’s Wimbledon campaign as he cruised into second round with 6-4, 6-3 6-2 win over Benjamin Becker on Monday. His supremacy also made him the most successful British man in Grand Slam History as he outshined the tally of Fred Perry’s 106 matches won at the four majors and also helped him to extend his dream run on grass court in his successive 12th match.
