Wimbledon: Murray, Djokovic ease through quarters

andymurrayadvancesLondon: Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic haven’t dropped a set till their journey to the quarters at Wimbledon. Though the fourth round match between Andy Murray and Mikhail Youzhny on Monday didn’t see a dominating performance from Murray, he managed to wrap up the match by 6-4, 7-6, 6-1 in two hours and 37 minutes.


Murray claimed the opening set which brought cheers to the crowd which was supporting him at the Centre Court. Everything was falling in place for the British till the time he lost his early lead in the second set. Youzhny surprised him by winning four games in a row.

Murray came back strongly with his strong backhand which eased past the racket of Youzhny. After getting 5-3 down in the second set it was his turn to serve and from there on he bounced back to take the game to the tie-break and then seal it with a backhand.


Murray was feeling relieved after seeing off the scary second set and after that it was just a matter of time as Murray breezed through the final set to setup his quarterfinal clash with Fernando Verdasco.


NOVAK WINS


m 07 djokovic 249 aeltc m hangstMeanwhile World No. 1, Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon after registering straight sets win over the Germany's veteran Tommy Haas 6-1,6-4,7-6(4) on Monday. Final set did see some fight back from German who was already down and out by losing first two sets but Novak didn’t give him any chance and went onto seal the berth for his quarter-final match which he will play against Tomas Berdych.


World Number one wrapped up the opening set in just 25 minutes. The second set saw some fight from Haas who managed to earn his first break when he forced Djokovic to make a forehand error. Showing his class, Djokovic bounced back to claim the couple of games off Haas service and winded up the second set with his trademark fist salute.


Djokovic was in no mood to allow the German to make a comeback and went on to take a 4-2 lead as he won the sixth game of the final set. However, Haas broke Djokovic's serve to make it 5-4. As the match went into the tie break, it was his forehand which allowed him to save second match point and his backhand error allowed Djokovic to make his way to the last eight.

With this impressive win, he broke the jinx of not making it to the last eight of Grand Slams in 2013. It was a hard fought match for the 7th seeded which he won by 7-6(4), 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4 to make his way to the quarters where he will meet Novak Djokovic.

The victory for Argentine came very much in the same manner as it was against Grega Zemlja in the third round. He ousted Andreas Seppi in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-3 to advance to the last eight.
