Andy Murray sets 'final date' with Djokovic at Wimbeldon

andymurraythirdroundLondon: Britian's Andy Murray is on the course of making history as he trounced Polish Jerzy Janowicz 6-7 (2/7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the men's singles semi-final to set up a final date with World No.1 Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon here on Friday. If Murray wins, he will end Britain's 77-year wait for a male winner of the Wimbledon singles' crown.

Earlier, Djokovic was stretched to the maximum in the match against Juan Martin del Potro, but managed to get the better of his rival 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-7 (6/8), 6-3 in the longest Wimbledon semi-final in history to move into his 11th Grand Slam title match.

Djokovic, bidding for a seventh Grand Slam crown, fired 22 aces and 80 winners in his breathtaking win over Del Potro, the 2009 US Open champion, who had been hoping to become just the second Argentine to make the Wimbledon final.

"It was one of the best matches I've been part of, certainly one of the most exciting. It was so close and nothing could separate us," said Djokovic after the match. "But that's why he is a Grand Slam champion, every time he was in a tough situation he comes up with unbelievable shots.”

Meanwhile, Murray who had battled his way back from two sets down to defeat Fernando Verdasco in the quarterfinal, once again found himself in the thick of things as he lost the first set 6-7 (2/7) to Janowicz. But the World No. 2 fought back to win the next three sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 for a final appearance.

"I'm obviously delighted with that," said Murray. "It was a tough match today, completely different to any matches I've played so far. He's very talented, very unpredictable. He hit huge serves out there and gave me very little rhythm. I'm very glad to get it done."

Speaking about his final on Sunday, Murray said, "It will be a tough match. He and [Juan Martin] del Potro played an incredible match. Some of the stuff they were playing... great rallies. Novak is playing very well. We've only played once on grass before, at the Olympics last year. I'll take that thought into my head on Sunday."
