Hyderabad: Some brilliant bowling from the quartet of Dale Steyn, Amit Mishra, Thisara Perera and Karan Sharma, who got two wickets each, helped Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals by 23 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, here on Friday. With this win Hyderabad have moved up to the fourth spot in the IPL points table.
Earlier it was some brilliant batting from Biplab Samantray who scored 55 runs whereas Darren Sammy smashed 23 runs off 19 balls which took Sunrisers Hyderabad to a total of 137 for the loss of nine wickets. Meanwhile, James Faulkner picked up his second five-wicket haul as he bamboozled the top-order of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rajasthan royals started off well as the duo of Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane added 39 runs for the first wicket before they were reduced to 2/40. Dravid got run-out after scoring 25 runs while Rahane was deceived in the flight by Karan Sharma. Rahane contributed just 12 runs off 25 balls that he faced.
Sanju Samson couldn’t do much with the bat as he went back after scoring 11 runs off Amit Mishra. Thisara Perera gave couple of blows in the 15th over as he got the wicket of Shane Watson and Stuart Binny. Watson added 11 runs while Binny contributed eight runs.
After that it was flurry of wickets as Sachin Baby, James Faulkner and Brad Hodge departed in quick succession and RR were reduced to 8/85. Kevon Cooper hit some big hits in the end and scored 26 runs off 12 balls.
Rajasthan Royals fell 23 runs short while chasing the stiff total of 137 runs against the mighty bowling attack of Hyderabad. Steyn concluded with the figures of 2/17 whereas Mishra eneded with the figures of 2/8 in his four overs.
Earlier in the match, it was James Faulkner who did the early damage and got rid of the dangerous duo of Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan. Shane Watson came in to the party as he got the wicket of Cameron White in the third over of the match and reduced SRH to 3/5.
Hanuma Vihari and Biplab Samantray did well as they rebuild the innings with their 44 runs partnership. Vihari departed after scoring 19 runs off 23 balls which brought Darren Sammy in the middle.
But Biplab and Sammy added 56 runs and continued the good work of keeping the scoreboard ticking with their singles and doubles. Sammy departed after scoring 23 runs off 19 balls and it was again Faulkner who grabbed the wicket.
Biplab and Thisara Perera kept stealing the ones and twos which got their side to 137. Faulkner got the wicket of Biplab and Steyn in his final over as he ended up with the figures of 5/16 after his four overs. Biplab scored 55 runs whereas Perera ended up scoring crucial 17 runs.
