New Delhi: World No. 2 badminton player Saina Nehwal’s campaign at the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2013 campaign came to an end after she lost toYui Hashimoto of Japan in a thrilling encounter of the women’s singles here today at the DDA Badminton Stadium, Siri Fort.
The top-seeded Indian who could never win the Indian leg of the BWF OSIM World Superseries, met the same fate as she bowed out of the $200,000 tournament in the second round losing 21-13, 12-21, 20-22 to her unseeded opponent.
Saina started the match on a good note and won the opening game before conceding the second. She was looking all set to win the match and was cruising on 20-17 but blew away her chance to qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament.
However young Indian shuttler PV Sindhu kept India’s hope alive in the women’s singles action with a fighting 19-21, 21-19, 21-15 win against Yu Sun of China.
In the men’s singles, H S Prannoy of India scored an upset straight games victory over former Olympic champion TaufikHidayat of Indonesia 26-24, 21-9.
Meanwhile, the world No.1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia had it easy against the unseeded Kazumasa Sakai of Japan 21-17, 21-9 to qualify for the last eight of the tournament.
