Arunima is an example of courage and bravery for the entire nation. She underwent pain and suffering after she lost her leg in an accident while travelling in the train in April 2011. Overcoming the scars of the accident and defying all odds, Arunima started training under Bachendri Pal and successfully scaled Mt Chhamser Kangri, 21,110 feet, with artificial limbs, along with her three other teammates on September 3, 2012. With her new mission, Arunima Sinha, 26 yrs, aims to become the first differently-abled woman in India to conquer Mt. Everest. She will set off for the expedition at the end of this month.

Speaking about this feat the brave heart, Arunima, a former national level volley ball player said, “I had set a new goal for myself after my accident. Climbing a mountain is not always about altitude statistics. It is simply pitting your courage against rock and seeing where you stand. And this is why I’m here to set a courageous example to the world.”

Sanjiv Paul, Vice President, Corporate Services Tata Steel in his message to Arunima Sinha said, “We, at Tata Steel salute and support these extraordinary talents and will always come forward to promote such abilities. The grit and determination shown by Arunima is truly praiseworthy and she will be an icon to the youth of the country and an embodiment of courage who can challenge all odds of life”. He further said, “We congratulate and wish both Arunima and Susen the very best for their expedition and hope every success to them in bringing laurels to the country.”

Tata Steel in its constant endeavor to promote such rare talents has supported Arunima in achieving her dream of scaling the Everest. Tata Steel has sponsored the expedition and provided all necessary training and mentorship for the challenging journey. Bachendri Pal provided Arunima with the required training to achieve the goal of conquering the highest peak in the world. She has followed and monitored Arunima’s performances very closely and is hopeful of a landmark achievement from this young and special adventure sports enthusiast.

Bachendri Pal, a constant guiding force and a source of inspiration for Arunima in her journey so far, is also impressed with Arunima's passion and perseverance. She said, "Arunima is a spirited girl with an exemplary mental strength and will power. We have witnessed the hard work and training she has gone through. The entire TSAF team is excited about Arunima’s expedition and waiting to welcome their young achiever successful in her mission.”

Susen Mahato, hailing from Saraikela Kharsawan District of Jharkhand will accompany Arunima for this expedition. His association with TSAF dates back to 1998 when he participated in TSAF adventure sports like river rafting, hill walking and mountain-biking. Susen Mahato is supported by Tata Steel as a rural youth.
