New Delhi: India’s hope at Miami Masters came to an end as Sania Mirza and Bethanie Mattek-Sands lost their double’s quarter-final match against the World no.1 pair of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci at the ATP Miami Open on Tuesday.
Seventh-seeded pair of Sania- Bethanie lost their match in the straight sets by 1-6 and 4-6 and was shown the exit door in the 66th minute. Though they started the game on aggressive note but the Italian pair was just too good for them.
The Indo-American pair failed to make a comeback in the game and was dominated by the oppositions throughout the first set. They did well in the beginning of the second set and took the game at love but the top-seeded pair did well to bounce back and won the set in just 24 minutes.
Third game did brought some sigh of relief for Sania-Bethanie as they took the lead of 3-1 but that lead didn’t last long and the Italian duo of Errani and Vinci broke their opponents' serve to minimize the gap to 2-3. Sania-Bethanie again put up a good fight by breaking their opponents in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead.
But the smiles on their faces didn’t last for long as the Italian duo won the next four games and sealed their berth for the semi-finals and their next encounter will be against the pair of Lisa Raymond and Laura Robson.
