New Delhi: India men’s and women’s team won their respective matches on fourth day of the Hero Hockey World League Round 2 Delhi 2013 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium today.
Eleventh-ranked India men’s team beat fifteenth-ranked Ireland 3-2 in the toughest match of the tournament and remains top of the points table with nine points. Rupinder Pal Singh (16th min PC), VR Raghunath (39th min PC) and Dharamvir Singh (56th min) scored for India.
In reply, Conor Harte (27th min) and Eugene Darling (51st min) scored for Ireland and gave tough competition to opponent.
Dharamvir Singh was adjudged as Player of the Match for his powerful attacks.
India will now face China on Saturday, 23 February 2013 at 20:00 and Ireland will play against China on Sunday, 24 February 2013 at 16:00.
In women’s tournament, 12th-ranked India won against 59th-ranked Fiji 10-0 and dominated through-out the match. Soundarya Yendala converted an early penalty corner into the first goal for India in the 7th minute followed by Nmamita Toppo in the 11th minute.
Roselln Dung Dung (15th & 45th min), Rani (22nd & 61st min), Navjot Kaur (38th min) and Jaspreet Kaur (59th min) played attacking match and scored for India to keep their team on the winning streak.
For her defensive performance Susana Mudunatagi, goalkeeper from Fiji was awarded by Player of the Match.
India will now face Japan on Friday, 22 February 2013 at 20:00 and Fiji will play against Malaysia on Friday, 22 February 2013 at 16:00.
In the men’s hockey on the fourth day, 40th ranked Bangladesh scored four goals against 36th ranked Oman and won the match by 4-1.
Pushkor Khisa (38th min), Sheikh Md. Hossain (51st min), Mahmud Rashel (60th min - PC) and Mohammad Moinul Islam (68th min) played attacking match in second half and outplayed Oman.
Anwar Saad Jumman scored the consolation goal for Oman in 65th minute.
Bangladesh will now face Fiji on Saturday, 23 February 2013 at 16:00 and Oman will play against Ireland on Saturday, 23 February 2013 at 18:00.
