Bengal fail to seize initiative against Hyderabad

Bengal fail to seize initiative against HyderabadKolkata: Bengal batsmen failed to capitalise on the good performance by their bowlers on a seaming wicket at the Eden Gardens in their group A Ranji Trophy clash against Hyderabad on Saturday.

Put in to bat first, Hyderabad batsmen proved no match for the Bengal bowling led by Shami Ahmed and skittled out for a paltry 115.

Ahmed was the wrecker-in-chief as he claimed four wickets for just 36 runs. He was well complemented by Veer Pratap Singh who chipped in with three wickets.

In reply the hosts to failed to negotiate the pitch as well and lost eight wickets for just 78 runs. Pacer Ashish Reddy (5 for 30) and left-arm pacer Anwar Ahmed (3 for 30) were the tormentors-in-chief.

Bengal will start the second day trailing 37 and it will all depend on opener Arindam Das who is unbeaten on 37 to rescue them.
