Mumbai: Bengal openers kept Mumbai’s victory hopes at bay on the third day of their group A Ranji Trophy match at the Brabourne Stadium here on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 391 after the hosts declared their innings for 294-5, Bengal opening duo of Rohan Banerjee and Arindam Das avoied any casualty and saw off the 16 overs that were bowled at them. They were 47-0 at the end of day’s play.
Banerjee was on 23 off 60 deliveries while Das was batting on 19 off 39 balls.
Earlier, starting the day at 6-0, Hiken Shah notched up his third consecutive century of the season. The left hander batsman who came into bat at number three position, took the responsibility and lead from the front to help Mumbai post a huge total. Hiken scored 118 off 209 balls laced with 15 boundaries.
Abhishek Nayar chipped in with 73 off 90 balls including five boundaries and a six. He was involved in a fourth wicket partnership of 158 runs.
