Champions Trophy: India thrash England 3-1 in opener

HIL names three Indians among six Marquee PlayersMelbourne: India defeated England 3-1 in their opening game of the Champions Trophy being played at Melbourne. India came back from behind to beat England who are one of the favorites to win the tournament.

England got the lead in the 15th minute of the match when Richard Smith beat the Indian goal-keeper. India after conceding the lead came back strongly and finally got the equalizer in the 22nd minute when Danish Mujtaba found a brilliant pass from Gurwinder Singh Chandi and converted it into the goal.

The first half ended with both teams tied at one goal each. India attacked more after the change of ends and put continuous pressure on the England team. They got the lead three minutes into the half when Yuvraj Walmiki found the goal.

India then defended well and their final goal came in the 66th minute when captain Sardar Singh converted a penalty corner into the goal.
India’s next match is against New Zealand.
