Vihari, Akshath lead Hyderabad fight-back

ranji-trophyHyderabad: Skipper Akshath Reddy and G.H. Vihari plundered centuries to launch Hyderabad’s fight-back against Mumbai in their Group A Ranji Trophy matchup at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here today.

Faced with an uphill task after they were in pursuit of Mumbai’s first innings total of 443, they ended the third day’s play on 423-3, trailing by just 20 runs.

Akshath Reddy (196, 426 balls, 27x4, 1x6) and Vihari (191, 331 balls, 18x4) stitched a record partnership of 386 runs for the second wicket, the highest ever for any wicket in Ranji Trophy for Hyderabad.

Akshath and Vihari mixed caution with aggression and did not take unnecessary risks.

They treated the ball on merit and displayed patience and grit to keep Mumbai at bay.

However both the centurions fell in succession during the closing moments of the game. Vihari was the first to go after he was caught by Ankit off his own bowling, while Ramesh Powar dismissed Akshath in same manner.
