New Delhi: Delhi openers Shikhar Dhawan and Unmukt Chand plundered centuries on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Group B match to take upperhand against Tamil Nadu at the Ferozeshah Kotla on here.
After sent into bat first, Dhawan (104) and Unmukt (134*) took full advantage of the flat pitch to stitch a partnership of 205 to end the day’s play at 287-1. After Dhawan was out in the 57th over, Unmukt was helped by Mohit Sharma (40) at the other end.
Balaji’s decision to field on the pitch which saw no movement cost them as the hosts took them to the task and none of the bowlers could pose any threat to the batsmen.
Dhawan and Unmukt took some time and played with caution in the first hour. But as the day passed on they started to get into the groove and started opening up.
They upped the ante post lunch and took the Tamil Nadu bowlers to the task. The good thing about their innings was that they stayed away from playing rash shots and hit only when it was there to be hit. Otherwise they were happy rotating the strike.
Dhawan however was the first and only casualty of the day after Aushik Srinivas bowled him out. His 175-ball included 18 hits to the fence.
His wicket brought Mohit Sharma to the crease and along with Unmukt guided Delhi safely to the stumps.
Unmukt hit 16 boundaries and two sixes in 228 balls.
Brief Scores: Delhi 287/1 (U Chand 134*, S Dhawan 104); TN
