Cook, Patel shine as England XI score 286-4 at stumps on day 2Mumbai: England captain Alastair Cook (112*) and all-rounder Samit Patel (82*) guided the visiting team’s comeback on the second day of the warm-up match between India A and England XI. Both players remained unbeaten at the end of the day’s play.

India A in their first innings posted 369 runs. England in reply lost their first wicket as Nick Compton got out without opening his account. Cook and Jonathan Trott (56) then put together a good partnership of 95 runs for the second wicket before Trott got out to Suresh Raina.

England’s comeback man Kevin Pietersen started his innings in an attacking fashion and hit some crispy boundaries. He got out to Yuvraj Singh on 23, Yuvraj then got Bell out as England XI were reeling at 133-4.

Samit Patel then came out to bat and looked comfortable at the crease. He along with Cook played sensibly and took the innings forward. They were involved in an unbeaten stand of 153 when play ended on day 2.
