Chennai: Late strikes from left-arm spinner Irish Saxena gave East Zone some hope against Central Zone on the fourth day of the Duleep Trophy final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Saxena dismissed Vinnet Saxena (22) and Central Zone’s captain Mohammad Kaif (2) before the play was called off.
Both teams are fighting for the decisive first innings lead and Central Zone still need 158 runs to wipe of the lead. Central Zone were 12/0 when the play finally started on day four, their openers Saxena and Tanmay Srivastava played cautiously and looked to build the innings.
They showed respect to the bowlers and hardly played any attacking strokes. Together the openers took Central Zone past the 50 run mark with the run-rate hovering around two. Just before the end of the day’s play Irish Saxena got Vineet Saxena and than trapped Kaif in front to give East some hope. Tanmay Srivastava was looking good at 46 before the play was stopped.
Earlier in the match, a brilliant hundred by Ishank Jaggi took East Zone to a score of 232.
