Chennai: A brilliant unbeaten hundred by Ishank Jaggi helped East Zone post a score of 232 in their first innings against Central Zone on the third day of the Duleep Trophy final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Play was delayed because of heavy rain and the match started in the last session of day two. East Zone were reeling at 64 for three when the third day started.
Jaggi who did not play in the semifinals got together with Iresh Saxena (16) and took the score past the 100 mark. Saxena became the third victim of Jalaj Saxena but not before adding 49 important runs with Jaggi. Last match’s hero Saurabh Tiwary then walked out to bat but couldn’t open his score.
East Zone kept losing their wickets and Jaggi struggled to find any support at the other end, some respite came in the form of Shiv Gautam (34) who held his ground and put up a solid contribution with Jaggi. Together they added 57 runs for the seventh wicket and took the score past 200.
Jaggi played attacking shots after the fall of Gautam’s wicket and remained unbeaten on 100.
Jalaj Saxena was the pick of the East Zone's bowlers picking up five wickets
Central Zone were 12/0 in two overs before the play ended.
