Chess Masters: Anand fails to end his winless streak

anandBilbao (Spain): World Champion Vishwanathan Anand continued his winless streak and played out his sixth draw on the trot in the Final Masters Chess Championship here.

The second leg of the championship which started after a week’s break failed to bring any respite for the Anand as he was held by Francisco Vallejo Pons of Spain.

Anand now has six points from as many games, while Fabiano Caruana of Italy lead the table with 11 points. Caruana was able to hold on to the lead even though he lost to Magnus Carsen of Norway.

Carslen is now on the second spot with nine points.

In another match Levon Aronian of Armenia drew with Sergey Karkajin of Russia and is on the third position with eight points from six matches.

Anand follows him on the fourth position, whereas Karkajin and Pons are on the fifth position with identical four points.
