New Delhi: Sania Mirza and her Spanish partner Nuria Llagostera beat the duo of Julia Georges and Barbora Strykova 4-6, 6-4, 16-14 to qualify for the semifinals of the women's doubles of the $4.8 million China Open tennis championship in Beijing on Thursday.
The Indo-Spain pair played the first set woefully and wasted as many as eight break points before losing the opener. They came back in the second set but not before dropping a set t the German-Czech pair.
The third set was an intense affair and Sania-Nuria saved two match points before forcing the match into the tie-breaker.
Meanwhile in the men's competition, Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna beat the Chinese wildcard pair of Mao-Xin Gong and Zhang Ze 6-3, 6-0 to enter the quarter finals.
