Shah Alam, Selangor: India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar fired one under 71 to stay in contention after the halfway stage at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters, here today.

Bhullar whose total score after two days is five under 139 is now on tied ninth position is the third Indian in the top 10 position.

Other two are Vikrant Chopra on tied ninth and Himmat Rai on tied 14th.

Talking about his day’s performance, Bhullar said, “Not a bad start. I came straight from Switzerland and played this without any practice round and had a good round yesterday (68). I am hitting a lot of three woods and driving the ball well except for a few bad approach shots. Two more days to go and a lot of work to be done. Looking forward to the week.”

“I’m hitting the ball good, much better and have been hitting a lot of fairways and a lot of greens in regulation in the past few months. That helps build the momentum with so many tournaments coming up,” he added.

Bhullar said even though the pin positions were tough, he managed to make some good putts.

“I’m stroking the putts well and made some good putts. Today, on a few holes, they put the flags in some difficult positions. You have to leave yourself with uphill putts. Let’s see what the pins are like the next two days,” he added.

Meanwhile Vikrant, who carded two under 70 said started off really well and the day could have been better for him but then a double bogey and couple of bogies spoilt what could have been a perfect day for him.

“Front nine was good till the 12 where I was six under there. I had not made a bogey till then but on 13, it was unfortunate my ball hit the cart path and took a bounce and went out of bounds for a double. There was another bogey on 15 and 17,” he said.

“I’m playing well. Last few weeks in India, I lost in a playoff. I have started to putt better. Hitting it alright but holing a few more putts. Not the easiest of greens here but I canned a few here,” added Vikrant.
