Indian Runners Nitender, Kavita win gold; Kavita seals Rio 2016 berth

Indian Elite Women Winner Kavita Raut at finish lineIndian Men and Women win Gold Medals in Marathon today in ongoing 12th South Asian Games. Nitenender Singh Rawat completed his target in 2:15:18:00 hrs. One second trail put Sri Lankan, C. Aruradha Indra to second place and got Silver Medal. Khetha Ram of India could manage Bronze Medal only.

In Women’s Marathon, Indian athlete Kavitha Raut covered the target distance in 2:38:38:00 hrs and struck Gold medal. Sri Lankan athletes N.G. Rajasekara bagged Silver while B.G.L. Anuradhi got Bronze medal.

Kavitha Raut also booked Rio Olympics birth after winning the gold medal. Other Indian Women Runnes O P Jaisha, Lalita Babbar and Sudha Singh have already qualfied for women’s marathon in Rio Olympics.

India ended the athletics competition with 28 gold, 22 silver and 9 bronze establishing their superiority in the South Asian region.
