New Delhi: Multiple Grand Slam winner Mahesh Bhupathi, who is playing with Yuki Bhambri for the first time together as a team, got the better of Yannick Mertens and Stephane Robert to reach the men's doubles semifinals of the Delhi Open, here on Thursday.
The Indian pair beat the Belgian-French duo 7-5, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the USD 50,000 tournament at the DLTA complex. Bhupathi and Yuki will now play Jimmy Wang and Ze Zhang, who ousted Indian wild card team of Mohit Mayur Prakash and Vinayak Sharma Kaza 6-1, 6-4.
Meanwhile, defending champions Saketh Myneni and Sanam Singh beat Vijay Sundar Prashanth and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 7-6 (4) 6-4 to reach the last four stage.
In the singles, Prajnesh Gunenswaran found a place in the quarterfinals after getting a walkover from Chinese seventh seed Yan Bai, who pulled out due to an upset stomach. Prajnesh will now take on second seed Kimmer Coppejans, who defeated Maxime Janvier 6-2, 6-4.
