Serena Williams stretching her lead at No.1

serena paris 300She's been No.1 for a long time, 120 weeks in a row in fact, but Serena Williams is starting to reach new levels of domination - by virtue of her third straight major at the French Open, the World No.1 now has more than two Grand Slams' worth of points separating her from current World No.2 Petra Kvitova.

Williams, who now has 11,291 ranking points on her total, is 4,421 points ahead of Kvitova, who has 6,870 ranking points on her total. That's not only more than two Grand Slams' worth of points, but that difference alone would get someone to No.6 in the world right now - Ana Ivanovic, the current No.6 who just reached the semifinals at Roland Garros, has earned 4,305 ranking points the last 12 months.

This is Williams' highest ranking points total since the 2014 French Open fortnight over a year ago - a pretty nice reward after two of the toughest weeks of her career, rallying from a set down four times just to reach the final in Paris, and then going to three sets again against an inspired Lucie Safarova.
