The day I will stop performing, brands will stop endorsing me: Virat Kohli

Virat KohliNew Delhi: Cricket and glamour go hand in hand and it’s the cricketers who bag major chunk of the ads apart from the Bollywood stars. Time and again cricketers have been accused of focussing too much of their time shooting for ads which their critics think is distractive to their playing career. However India’s vice-captain, Virat Kohli, begs to differ and says that players get ads because they perform on the field and the day their performance starts falling, the number of ads get deceasing.

“So who will want that in their career? I don’t think it’s a distractive thing. At least not for me! It is a question often asked but don’t know why. I perform on the field and that’s why I get ads. The day I will stop performing, brands will stop endorsing me. I sign ads depending upon my time management. I don’t let my practice suffer. We need to maintain a balance. Instead of going to parties and wasting time, I prefer practising,” said Virat on being asked if shooting for ads deprived them of the much-need match practice.

On being asked to name the style icons of Team India and if anybody in the team need a makeover, Virat said that everybody in the team had a style sense of their own and they hardly needed one. “Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan are very well dressed guys in the Team. But then everyone in the team has a style sense and I don’t think anyone in the team needs a makeover,” said Virat, adding that he does not idolize anyone and likes to be his self.

The youth icon said that he believed in the concept ‘You are what you wear’ and therefore is endorsing the brand Sangam suitings. “I admire the way the fabric fall when I wear a suit made from Sangam Suitings, I always prefer to wear Sangam suits specially when in parties, and family occasions like weddings and festivals. I think the combination of fashionable textiles and ease of wearing them is what Sangam Suitings is to me. I loved the ad shoots with Bollywood star Suniel Shetty,” said Kohli, during the announcement of Sangam’s advertisement campaign at Hotel Sheraton on Thursdy.

The new campaign introduces the new range of  clothing and aims to differentiate Sangam products better then any other product available in market of the same segment. The concept of the campaign lies in brand positioning “You are what you wear”. The clothes are designed & styled under the Designer label of Varun Bahl & Karan Johar.

Highlighting its new campaign and business plans VK Sodani, Executive Director said, “We have launched the new campaign keeping in mind our latest collection. This festive season, we wanted to give our customers something that they have been looking forward to, 'look like someone who actually they are and truly believe in themselves. We’re positive that people across the country will relate to the message, and that the new collection will receive a positive response.”
